Medical Facial Treatments in Bangkok — Multi-Step Hydradermabrasion at VERZO CLINIC, BTS Ekkamai
A medical facial at VERZO is a sequence of mechanical and topical steps performed on the skin surface: cleansing, exfoliation with a mild acid, suction-assisted extraction of pore contents, and infusion of a serum. It works on the epidermis and the pores — it is not an injectable, not an energy device, and it does not lift or add volume.
What a multi-step facial is used for
The programme is built from a shared set of steps. Which steps run, and how many, is decided from the skin assessment at the visit rather than chosen from a menu in advance:
- Congested pores and blackheads (exfoliation + suction extraction) — A randomised split-face study found that adding suction to an alpha-hydroxy-acid peel reduced whiteheads and blackheads more than the same peel alone, and reduced measured pore area at one week [3].
- Active mild-to-moderate acne (clarifying sequence) — In an open-label series of six treatments over twelve weeks, the proportion of patients rated clear or almost clear rose from 20 to 65 percent on investigator assessment. The study had no control arm and no blinding [4].
- Dull or rough surface texture (exfoliation + serum infusion) — Investigator-rated smoothness, radiance and hydration improved from the first session in a manufacturer-funded series of six biweekly treatments with a topical serum [5].
- Dry, dehydrated skin (serum infusion) — Antioxidant levels measured in the skin rose after a course of six treatments; applying the same serum by hand produced no detectable change, which is direct evidence that the delivery method matters and not only the product [1].
- Preparation before another treatment (scheduling) — Because the skin is left clean and free of surface debris, the programme is often scheduled before or between other treatments. Sequencing is decided by the treating doctor.
Checkable at the visit
- Performed at VERZO CLINIC, 988-990-992 Sukhumvit Road, beside BTS Ekkamai Exit 1.
- Single-use tips and consumables; the packaging is opened in front of the patient.
- The step count is set after a skin assessment, and can be reduced on the day if the skin is not suitable.
- The facility operates under a Ministry of Public Health clinic licence, displayed on the premises.
- Serum and acid products used in the programme can be shown to the patient on request.
How the steps are structured
The programme is sold by step count rather than by duration, and at VERZO it runs from one step to five. A single step is essentially a cleanse and extraction. Adding steps adds acid exfoliation, a second extraction pass, serum infusion, and a finishing step. More steps is not automatically better: skin that is inflamed, actively peeling, or recently treated with a retinoid or an acid may tolerate fewer steps, and the assessment exists to decide that.
- Cleansing and softening of the stratum corneum.
- Exfoliation with a mild acid solution.
- Suction-assisted extraction of pore contents.
- Infusion of a serum selected for the skin type.
- A finishing step, which varies by programme.
What the evidence supports, and what it does not
The honest summary is that this is a surface treatment with surface evidence. Imaging studies show real, measurable change in the epidermis: the stratum corneum thins immediately after treatment and is slightly thicker and more evenly structured two weeks later [2]. An earlier randomised study found increased epidermal and papillary dermal thickness after a course of six [1]. But the same imaging study looked at the dermis at two weeks and found no visible change in the quantity or quality of collagen [2]. Nothing in this literature supports describing a facial as a lifting or tightening treatment, and this page does not. The studies are also small — eight, twenty, twenty-three and twenty-nine participants — several are unblinded, and two were funded by the manufacturer of the device or serum used. Those limits are listed against each source below.
Who performs it and what to disclose
Tell the clinic before the appointment if you are using a topical retinoid, benzoyl peroxide, or an acid product, have had a chemical peel or laser treatment recently, are taking oral isotretinoin, have active cold sores, or have a history of keloid scarring. Any of these changes what is appropriate, and some of them mean the treatment should be postponed. This programme is not a treatment for a skin disease: persistent or worsening acne, rashes and pigmented lesions need a medical assessment rather than a facial.
Frequently asked questions
Is a medical facial the same as HydraFacial?
HydraFacial is a specific brand of hydradermabrasion device. The category — cleansing, acid exfoliation, suction extraction and serum infusion in one sequence — is what the published research studies, and several manufacturers make devices that perform it. VERZO runs its programmes on an Aquapure platform. When research is cited on this page, the device used in that study is named in the reference.
How many steps should I have?
That is decided at the assessment, not in advance. Skin that is inflamed, actively peeling, or recently treated with an acid or retinoid usually gets fewer steps. Asking for the highest step count is not a way to get a better result and can make irritation more likely.
Will it tighten or lift my face?
No. This is a treatment of the skin surface and pores. Imaging of the dermis two weeks after treatment found no visible change in collagen [2]. Lifting and tightening are the province of energy devices and injectables, which are separate treatments with separate risks — ask the doctor at consultation which, if any, is appropriate for you.
How often can it be repeated?
The published studies used a course of six treatments spaced one to two weeks apart. Beyond that, frequency depends on the skin and on what else is being done to it. The doctor sets the interval; more frequent is not better, and over-exfoliated skin is a common reason to space treatments further apart.
Is there any downtime?
Usually none in the sense of needing to stay home. Transient redness and a warm feeling for a few hours are common, and skin can look slightly flushed. Extraction can leave small marks where a blocked pore was cleared. Tolerability scores in the published series were low across parameters, but individual reactions vary, and skin treated with more steps reacts more.
Can I have it if I have active acne?
Sometimes, and it depends on the type. Comedonal congestion often responds well. Inflamed nodules and cysts are a different problem: dermatology guidelines treat these with topical and oral medication, and list injecting a corticosteroid into a large individual lesion as good practice — none of which is a facial. Bring active acne to a doctor for assessment first.
