Post-Thread Concerns
Numbness, thread visibility, bruising, and when something actually needs attention. An honest guide to sorting normal recovery from real concerns.
Normal vs Concerning: The Quick Guide
Normal (No Worry)
- Mild numbness in small patches — resolves in 2-4 weeks
- Slight firmness or ridge feeling when pressing
- Asymmetry in the first 2 weeks
- Light bruising fading within 7-14 days
- Mild dimpling or puckering (resolves by week 2)
- Tightness or pulling sensation
Concerning (Contact Clinic)
- Numbness affecting a large area or lasting 6+ weeks
- Thread visibly protruding through skin
- Bruising spreading after day 3
- Fever, pus, or red streaking
- Severe pain increasing after day 3
- Inability to close eye or sudden facial weakness
Numbness After Thread Lift
The most common concern patients have after a thread lift is numbness. Small areas of reduced sensation near the entry points or along the thread path are completely normal. This happens because the needle passes through the tissue, creating temporary disruption to tiny sensory nerve endings. It is not the same as nerve damage.
"When patients message me concerned about numbness, the first thing I ask is: is it a small area or a large area? A small patch of numbness near the entry point is expected and temporary. It typically resolves within 2-4 weeks as the tissue heals. True nerve damage — which is extremely rare with proper technique — would affect a much larger area and specific facial movements."

Thread Visibility and Palpability
In the first few weeks, you may be able to feel the threads under your skin if you press firmly. This is more common in areas with thinner skin. The threads should not be visible to others — if you can see a ridge or line from a conversational distance, contact your doctor.
As swelling resolves and tissues settle around the threads (week 3-6), palpability decreases significantly. By month 2-3, most patients cannot feel the threads at all even with deliberate pressing.
When Bruising Is Excessive
Light bruising is normal after any thread procedure. It typically appears within 24 hours, peaks around day 2-3, and fades from purple to yellow over 7-14 days. Arnica supplements and avoiding blood thinners before the procedure help minimize bruising.
Contact your doctor if bruising:
- Continues spreading after day 3 (it should be stabilizing, not growing)
- Is accompanied by increasing pain or hardness
- Shows no improvement whatsoever by day 10
- Is accompanied by warmth or redness suggesting infection
The RF + Massage Recovery Tip
After the initial 2-week healing period, gentle radiofrequency treatments and professional lymphatic massage can accelerate recovery. RF helps reduce residual swelling, stimulates additional collagen formation around the threads, and improves overall skin quality.
Recovery Protocol (Post-Week 2)
- Week 2-4: Gentle RF treatment at low settings to reduce swelling
- Week 3-4: Light professional lymphatic massage (not deep tissue)
- Month 2+: Regular RF and massage as part of maintenance routine
Important: Only under doctor guidance. Do NOT attempt facial massage at home during the first 2 weeks.
Follow-Up Schedule at VERZO CLINIC

Frequently Asked Questions
Is numbness after a thread lift normal?
Yes, mild numbness in small areas is completely normal. It resolves within 2-4 weeks. It is caused by local anesthesia and minor tissue disruption — not nerve damage.
Can you feel or see threads under the skin?
In the first 2-4 weeks, you may feel slight firmness where threads are placed. This resolves as tissues settle. Visible thread lines are uncommon with proper placement.
When should I worry about bruising?
Concerning signs: bruising spreading after day 3, bruising with increasing pain, or no improvement by day 10. Normal bruising fades within 7-14 days.
Is dimpling long-lasting?
No. Dimpling is temporary, caused by barbs catching superficial tissue. Most resolves in 7-14 days. If persistent after 3-4 weeks, a simple release fixes it instantly.
What does asymmetry in recovery mean?
Asymmetry in the first 1-2 weeks is expected — each side swells at different rates. Wait until week 3-4 to assess. If significant asymmetry persists, your doctor can adjust.
What is the RF + massage recovery tip?
After 2 weeks, gentle RF treatments and professional massage can accelerate recovery. RF reduces swelling and stimulates collagen. Only under doctor guidance.
When should I call the clinic?
Call for: fever over 38.5C, severe pain worsening after day 3, red streaking, pus discharge, sudden facial weakness, or inability to close one eye.
How often are follow-ups?
At VERZO CLINIC: 1 week (healing check), 1 month (early results), 3 months (collagen phase). Additional visits only if concerns arise.
